Edge-On Spiral Galaxy

(The Milky Way)

This image of our galaxy was captured from far western New South Wales.

It was taken near the historic mining town of Silverton, as the core of our home galaxy
transited overhead, a little before midnight in late June.

Aboriginal star-lore often references "The Emu" which
is not marked by the stars, but by the dark nebluae of the central milky way

Can you see it?
(hint: it's head is pointing down near the Souhern Cross)

The image is not a mosaic, it was captured instead using a *very* wide-angle lens
with almost east to west horizon coverage along the frame's diagonal.

Vixen Polarie Star tracker + Manfroto carbon fibre tripod
Canon EOSRa + Canon 8-15 F4.0 Fisheye zoom lens
set at 15mm to allow full frame coverage
